Mödling

Mödling is a pleasant little town not far from Vienna. Some 15 km south of the city limit of Vienna on the eastern edge of the Vienna Wood, surrounded by vineyards where the famous wines of Gumpoldskirchen are produced, Mödling is enjoying increasing popularity as a place to live. At the moment the population is about 23.000, but the number is rising rapidly. This is due of course to the attractive surroundings and nearness to Vienna, but also to the wide range of facilities the town can offer. Mödling is one of the best school districts in Austria with some 13 schools, including the biggest in Europe, the Polytechnic College.

In addition, Mödling can offer numerous attractive shops and boutiques, especially in the beautiful pedestrian area with its well preserved medieval townhouses. Mödling also has a very long musical tradition: many important composers have spent long periods of their lives in the town. Ludwig van Beethoven, for example, who wrote his Missa Solemnis here and also his "Mödling Dances".

Nowadays Mödling still has an active cultural life to offer, with a wide range of theatrical, musical and cabaret performances, art exibitions and vernissages. This is just one of the reasons why the town ist becoming an increasingly attractive tourist destination.
